Winter is coming to an end. Approaches are getting longer and we have to look higher for snow. Großglockner stands 3798 meters high and is the highest Austrian mountain and a challenge on its own.
At the end of the season we knew we would be prepared as ever, starting after midnight we set off from Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe, soon we reached snow and began climbing our way to Erzherzog Johann Hütte. It was a long night, but with a good team time passed by quickly and soon we stood on top of Austria.
Our plan was to ski Pallavicini Couloir. Pallavicinirinne was first ascended in 1876, it is the first and also the most famous route up the north face of the Grossglockner. After a few pretty stressful rappels, due to us being worried we were too late, we reached the couloir and we were awarded with very good ski conditions.
Turn after turn we made our way down this amazing north face and soon we were standing at the Glockner bivouac, looking up at the line we just skied and being surrounded with such a team it was a moment we won’t forget for a long time!
